Hey, travelpreneur!
Before we dive in, I just want to share: I'm on a pitching rampage to fund my whirlwind European vacation this summer, and I've got most of it covered with sponsorships and paid partnerships! But I’ve got to tell you, pitching in 2023 is a whole new ball game compared to 2019. That's why I'm going to dish out my top-secret tips from this pitch campaign in the WST Facebook group, as well as through email. And if you're feeling extra fancy and want some one-on-one coaching, I've got a few more spots open for my Voxer Coaching sessions. Get ready to take notes, because I'm about to teach you how to win at the pitching game!
Now, let's talk about finding travel magazines that accept submissions. It's like falling down a rabbit hole, only instead of Wonderland, you end up in a maze of websites, social media pages, and directories.
At first, it seems easy. Just type "travel magazines accepting submissions" into your search engine of choice and voila! You're ready to go. But as any seasoned writer knows, it's never that simple.
You click on the first link, and it takes you to a page with a list of publications.
Great, right?
Wrong.
Half of them haven't updated their submission guidelines since 2015, and the other half only accept pitches from writers with at least 10 years of experience and a published book.
Undeterred, you move on to the next website, which has a "submit your story" button right on the homepage.
Jackpot!
But wait, they only accept stories about eco-tourism in Southeast Asia written in haiku format.
You start to feel like you're in a choose-your-own-adventure book, except all the options lead to dead ends.
Do you try the online directories next? Or maybe the social media pages?
It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack, but the needle keeps moving every time you get close.
But fear not, intrepid travelers!
There are some tried and true methods for finding magazines that are the perfect fit for your stories. It just takes a little patience, persistence, and a willingness to embrace the chaos.
This leads me to my latest post:
