This issue is brought to you by Travelpayouts.
So, you’re on a mission to snag those travel sponsorships? Then you need to reach a decision maker each time you pitch!
I shared who you should be pitching in last week’s newsletter but how exactly do you find these people? That’s what we’re getting into today…
No mystical spells or secret handshakes are required—just good ol’ practical advice.
LinkedIn: Your Professional GPS
Profile Power-Up: Think of your LinkedIn profile as your digital business card. Highlight your adventures, showcase your expertise, and add a dash of charisma.
Search Smarts: Use LinkedIn’s advanced search filters. Specify the industry (travel, of course), location (worldwide, naturally), and job titles (Marketing, PR, and GMs are a good start).
Company Pages: Stalk travel brands’ company pages (virtually, not in a creepy way). Follow them like a loyal fan. You’ll get behind-the-scenes access to their updates, campaigns, and office coffee machines.
Human Connections: When sending connection requests, ditch the robotic “I’d like to add you to my professional network.” Be real! Mention shared interests, recent wins, or their epic travel blog posts. Trust me, they’ll notice.
Industry Directories: The X Marks the Spot
Hotel Hunt: Ever heard of the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA)? They’re like the Google Maps of hotel contacts. Visit their website, click around, and—ta-da! A list of hotel executives appears.
Airline Allies: Airlines love alliances (think Star Alliance, Oneworld). Their websites spill the beans. Hunt down those airline decision-makers like a digital detective.
Tourism Boards: Each country’s tourism board holds the keys to the kingdom. Visit their official websites or gatecrash their virtual conferences. You’ll find contacts aplenty.
Trade Show Intel: Attend travel industry events—ITB Berlin, World Travel Market, or ATM Dubai. Network like a pro. Collect business cards and then connect!
By mastering LinkedIn and tapping into industry directories, you’ll be well on your way to connecting with decision-makers who can transform your travel content into sponsored adventures.
